FISH FARMING

FISH FARMING

Here at Essexcarpsyndicates we collect the carp eggs on spawning mops organically, we then bring them on in special tanks for a few days until eyelash size at this point we stock them into our shallow fry pond that have been manured before the introduction of the fry, to promote the production of Zooplankton such as Daphnia after a few weeks the natural food will start to be supplemented with artificial food, a Carp can grow up to an inch in size within the first month, after a few weeks we drain the pond so we can grade out the shooters which are twice the size of their siblings.

These very special graded carp are transferred to a specially prepared stock pond this has been drained and limed to sterilise the area killing off any unwanted bugs etc.

There they will spend the next few months until winter being fed with fry crumb and then quality pellets, at this first winter point we reduce them down by size keeping only the very best characters with good potential scale patterns, and growth, these fish are moved on again to a bigger growing on pond where they will stay for a couple more summers until they are 3 summers (5-7lb) old and relatively cormorant proof.

These special hand selected fish are what we use for our own syndicates but we usually have a very small surplus each winter due to our very limited needs this is a very time consuming process and lots of hard work.
